Leadership & governance

Good governance is how a free service stays fair. Our board oversees how we choose partner organizations, how we handle their data, and how we spend whatever resources we have. Our team does the day-to-day work and answers to the board.

How we govern

  • Fair selection of partner organizations

We review complete applications in the order we receive them. An application moves forward when the organization is verifiably registered, the request fits our four services, and we have the capacity to do the work well. We don't choose partners based on personal connections, religion, ethnicity or political views. If we can't take a project, we say why.

  • Conflicts of interest

Board members, staff and volunteers must declare any personal or financial connection to an applicant, such as a family member on its board. The person with the conflict takes no part in the decision about that application. Declarations are recorded. [TO CONFIRM: that the board has adopted a written conflict of interest policy, and the date.]

  • No payments, no gifts

We do not accept payment, commission or gifts from partner organizations in exchange for our support, and we do not accept referral fees from any platform or provider we recommend.

  • Annual review

Once a year the board reviews our policies, the list of organizations we supported, any complaints received, and how we handled applicants' data. [TO CONFIRM: month of the annual review, and whether a short annual summary will be published.]

  • Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we handled your application or project, email [contact email TO CONFIRM] with "Complaint" in the subject line. A board member not involved in your project will review it, and we aim to reply within [TO CONFIRM: e.g. 15 working days].
